Region 11 Candy Gourlay Many Filipino Authors wrote many notable works and published books that make Philippines more popular about talented literature authors. One of this authors that is popular about their outstanding works is Candy Gourlay that came from Region 11. Candy Gourlay is a Filipino Author that is based in United Kingdom but she was born and raised in Davao, Philippines. She played a significant role in our history especially in the overthrow of 21 year regime of Filipino Dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. From 1984 to 1989, she served and worked as a journalist, notably as a staffwriter in the Philippines. She become popular by her works that inspired many Filipino and even people in other countries that is reading her works. She writes about dismantling the walls and boundaries between people because she has chosen to scale them, push on them, and break them down for herself.

According to the website of Candy Gourlay, her first job was on a newsletter called Stork News that her little sister edited. Later on, she became a journalist, writing and covering such life-changing events as the People Power Revolution in our country. She even drew a weekly cartoon strip for a women’s magazine. As the time comes, Candy Gourlay was married and had three children and that’s the time that she decided to try to write fiction. But before she can able to write fiction, she returned first being a journalist by writing a documentary for BBC Radio about the emigration of Filipino Women to other countries, so that they can earn money for their families, and the children they leave behind. Then after that, she began to write fiction. She sold books especially short story and book of animal stories and finally, Tall Story was bought and published. Tall Story is one of her notable and popular works. Her other notable works is Shine. Since she became a mother, her genre focus more on children’s books, fiction, middle grade, teen novels and young adult. Candy Gourlay is one of the best example of authors that make some real changes and helped inspiring people especially Filipinos by being determined, focused and passionate in her writing journey, and because of that she has chosen and chosen again, to break down walls between people, bridge gaps and make connections and all of her efforts and hardships has paid off.
